The Art of Writing Letters
Whether you are writing a review for our Mission Place apartment community here in Jessup, MD, a letter of recommendation for a friend or colleague, or a letter to express your dissatisfaction with a recently purchased product, being able to clearly and concisely express yourself is an important skill to have. In today’s blog post, we share some info about how to write various types of letters.
Writing a Review
In this day and age, reviews are the name of the game. Whether you are looking for the best pizza in town, a reliable mechanic, or a reasonably priced photographer for your next event, reviews are a helpful tool in the decision-making process.
When you are writing a review, be specific and fair. Stick to the facts, particularly if the review is pointing out shortcomings. There is no need to engage in vilifying a business or person while expressing frustration or disappointment. Be fair and acknowledge that your experience may not be the same as others. Describe what happened, how things were or were not resolved, and your overall satisfaction with the experience.
Writing a Letter of Recommendation
Recommendation letters are typically requested by students applying to a specific program or undergraduate school, scholarship programs, leadership programs, and for some career opportunities. If you have been asked to write a letter of recommendation, keep in mind the following guidelines from ThoughtCo.
A paragraph or sentence that explains how you know this person and the duration of your relationship with them.
An evaluation of the person and their skills/accomplishments. If possible, offer specific examples that illustrate the person’s strengths and qualifications. These examples should be brief but detailed.
A summary that explains why you would recommend this person and to what degree you would recommend them.

Writing a Letter to a Friend
Not many people write letters anymore to friends and loved ones. Make time this month to change that and express your gratitude and love for that person. Find a friend that you haven’t talked to in awhile and let them know you’re thinking about them. A simple text could maybe do the job, but a letter can mean so much more. You could also write a letter to someone you see often, but don’t express your gratitude to. Let them know how they’ve blessed your life and what kind of friend they are to you. If it’s been awhile since you’ve written a letter, these letter-writing tips will help you get started.
We hope you enjoy doing some writing this month whether it’s letters or reviews. Please feel free to leave a review for Mission Place apartments. Thanks for reading our post this month and happy writing!
